JM - Bolton Albert Hall

Infinite 3D were commissioned recently to document the finished refurbishment of an iconic northern landmark, in Bolton’s Albert Hall. Thanks to the teams at JM Architects in Manchester, and Wilmott Dixon, the precious concert hall, which is a Grade-II listed building, has been restored to her former glory, as part of a £6.5m refurbishment project.

The refurbishment was not without its challenges, however. The working nature of the building meant that the construction teams were working on the older half of the hall, while workers in occupied offices worked in the other half, in close proximity to one another. Great care was taken to uncover certain heritage elements of the Albert Hall, and plans are now in place for these elements to be put on public display. However, facing up to such challenges has come with its share of plaudits, too. The Living Heritage Award, created by Welsh Slate this year to recognise projects using welsh slate, has seen the Bolton Albert Hall as its inaugural winner.

The revamp of the halls included the theatre and function rooms, as well as a brand new cafe and restaurant on site. The approved plans also include the construction of an accessible ramp, to improve disabled access to the building.
