KKA - Holiday Inn, Birmingham

KKA - Holiday Inn, Birmingham

Liverpool-based KKA Architects have reason to celebrate once again, as their new scheme - a Holiday Inn at the heart of Birmingham city centre, has opened its doors for business. The hotel, which was given planning permission back in 2012, boasts 261 rooms of varying size, as well as 33 meeting and event rooms, to suit a range of functions. The hotel boast that they are able to accommodate intimate meetings for 4 in their lobby on Hill Street, to board meetings for 20+ at Meet, to anywhere between 70-1000 people in their state of the art conference room at the BCEC in the Mercian Suite.

Located opposite the Grand Central shopping mall, and next door to the brand-new Birmingham Conference and Events Centre, the hotel is ideally placed for a city centre get away in the heart of the UK.

This, however, is not what makes KKA Architect’s latest scheme unique.

The striking, ‘pixelated building’, look that KKA had in mind during the initial planning has been made a reality, thanks to the rain screen cladding installed by RCM, who have called it a ‘unique, ground-breaking pixelated appearance’. Another ground-breaking feature of the hotel comes in the form of its innovative hybrid air-conditioning system, which removes the need for leak detection systems in individual rooms.
